office supplies uk

OFFICE SUPPLIESDespite the growth of technologies that supposedly herald the impending arrival of the paperless office, offices in todays business environment would still be decidedly incomplete without paper, pens, file folders and other traditional office tools. Although their cost is small when purchased separately, in the aggregate they amount to a substantial portion of office expense. Small business owners should thus make sure that they pay attention to office supply costs and keep all receipts of such purchases, since office supplies are a legitiimate business deduction for tax purposes. PROCUREMENT OPTIONS In recent years, office superstores and catalogue supply houses have emerged as the most efficient and inexpensive way to purchase various types of supplies. The average client of these superstores is the small- to medium-sized business, as well as the home office market. The convenience of being able to find virtually any office supply at one location is one of the primary reasons for the increased popularity of the superstores. In addition to convenience, these stores and catalogues offer merchandise that is very competitively priced since they are able to purchase their goods at bulk rates. Some of these savings are usually passed along to small business customers, especially if the stores are operating in a competitive environment.
With a little planning and forethought, ordering office supplies from catalogs can save you as much as 70 percent off list prices. Delivery times, ordering procedures, terms, and return policies differ from company to company, however, so its up to you to find out if the catalog supplier youre ordering from will meet you neds. HOME-OFFICE COMPUTING compared four leading catalog houses that target home-based business people: Penny Wise, Reliable, Viking, and Visible. Shipping charges. PennyWise and Viking require a minimum order of $25 to qualify for free shipping. Reliable has no minimum but charges a small handling fee on all deliveries. Visible charges for all shipping.
DEFEATING THE SUPERSTORESOak Three Office Supply, Inc. in East Hanover, NJ, has come a long way since starting out in a garage in 1979. Since then, Bill Kesselman, President, has grown Oak Tree into a highly successful office supply and office furniture dealership, serving companies with “one- stop shopping” for all their office supply needs.

Debt is Slavery
Effective January 1, 2001, Treasurys Bureau of the Public Debt revised formats, titles, and column headings in the “Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States,” Table I: Summary of Treasury Securities Outstanding and Table II: Statutory Debt Limit. These changes should reduce confusion and bring the publication more in line with the publics use of terms. Treasurys Financial Management Service (FMS) compiles data in the “Treasury Bulletin” tables FD-2 and FD-6 from the “Monthly Statement of the Public Debt of the United States.” Effective June 2001, FMS revised procedures and categories in these tables to agree with the Bureau of the Public Debts publication changes. * Table FD-1 summarizes the Federal debt by listing public debt and agency securities held by the public, including the Federal Reserve. It also includes debt held by Federal agencies, largely by the Social Security and other Federal retirement trust funds. The net unamortized premium and discount also are listed by total Federal securities, securities held by Government accounts and securities held by the public. The difference between the outstanding face value of the Federal debt and the net unamortized premium and discount is classified as the accrual amount. (For greater detail on holdings of Federal securities by particular classes of investors, see the ownership tables, OFS-1 and OFS-2.)
Traders who are owed debts in the Argentine must be wondering whether President Eduardo Duhalde will be able to deal with his countrys political and economic crisis. Readers who may not have used this type of service before might like to consider this method of reducing their bad debts, especially if they are either uninsured or self-insured. Omni Whittingtons emerging market services began in 1986. Its core activity is the collection of defaulted sovereign (government) or bank guaranteed trade debts evidenced by letters of credit, promissory notes, bills of exchange or similar instruments. The group employs approximately 350 staff in offices in the UK, the Netherlands and the United States. Collection work is carried out on no cure, no pay terms. This means that all of the legal and associated costs are borne by Whittington and they are remunerated by retaining a pre-determined percentage of the recovery actually achieved. This is an extremely useful solution utilised by multi-nationals, banks, and the political risk insurance market, including Lloyds syndicates. Not all creditors are keen to take the legal route and some exporters, when faced with short term liquidity problems, seek a more immediate solution. With this in mind, defaulted payment instruments can be purchased through a dedicated investment fund, which is under Whittingtons control and management. Incidentally, the company undertakes to provide creditors with a full feasibility assessment of their default situations and, where possible, provide them with a collection and/or purchase proposal. This service is provided free of charge and is conducted with utmost confidentiality.

Also, Gov. George Pataki vetoed the prevailing wage notification bill that would have required employers to inform employees what the prevailing wage is on their jobs. A notice would be enclosed in workers first paychecks, but Pataki said the requirement would have been onerous for some employers. The sponsor of the measure, Westchester County Assm. Richard Brodsky, said Pataki was turning a blind eye to workers rights. The measure was unanimously approved by both houses.
The “best” job for you to pursue is a “fun” job! A job that is exciting to you. A job where you cant wait to get to work when you wake up! Do you realize that perhaps as many as 80 percent of the people in the workforce today dont enjoy what they are doing? What a terrible way to go through life! Starting salary, bonuses, benefits and geography are certainly important. But those things will take care of themselves. If your work is fun, you will be good at it, and the tangible rewards will follow.

SAN FRANCISCO — The following release focuses on the topic Home Improvement: LOUISVILLE, Ky.–GE ClimateKeeper2 Refrigeration Technology Keeps it Fresh in the Kitchen (12/01/2004 - 08:00 AM, SOURCE: General Electric Consumer Industrial, NYSE:GE)
For years, Remodeling magazines annual “Cost vs. Value Report” has offered comfort to homeowners investing hefty dollars into home improvement projects. The high payback on the most popular rehabs - kitchens and bathrooms - has even been the catalyst to spur some homeowners to remodel. They felt confident that if they did good work, theyd get back most of their funds. Does this mean that homeowners should stop renovating? Hardly, especially when they have a distinct vision of how they want their home to look and function - and if they have the funds. But decreasing numbers suggest greater caution: - Never overimprove. Take the value of your existing home, add in the cost of your potential improvements and be sure the new sum doesnt exceed the value of comparable neighborhood homes.

The pool was such a hit that from the day it was opened the town has been buoyed up on a wave of civic pride. Not since the alcoholic dwarf and his convicted paedophile father were bludgeoned to death, mutilated and set on fire by a group of unemployed teenagers have the local townspeople been as collectively exhilarated. Phrases like community spirit and our childrens future are still peppering the letters page of the local paper. Property prices have risen slightly. An ecumenical church service of thanksgiving is being planned. And people of all ages are learning how wonderful it is to be able to swim. Naturally enough, in a rural area such as this, there are people who have had little or no previous experience of either indoor swimming pools or unisex changing rooms. On the very first day, a 57-year-old farm labourer was cautioned by police for allegedly exposing himself in a cubicle. And an unclaimed pair of wellingtons and a decomposing ferret were discovered in a locker after a persistent smell was traced to its source. In the pool itself a 25-year-old supermarket manager sustained a nasty head injury after taking a running dive into the shallow end. When the pool was divided into lanes to cater for the serious swimmers, problems also occurred when new swimmers presumed an entitlement to one lane each on a first-come-first-served basis. I myself was reprimanded and then lightly assaulted by an elderly lady who believed that, by swimming in a lane that was already occupied by her, I had taken a serious liberty. But theres nothing that a few extra signs in the changing room and at the poolside wont sort out.

Carpets by Otto is a division of Sav-A-Carpet Inc., a company founded in 1969 by Otto and Dee Weik as a carpet cleaning and janitorial service. After a year in business, Sav-A-Carpet began selling carpet purchased from local distributors and found it to be a successful sales endeavor. This prompted the Weiks to travel to Dalton, Georgia to look into purchasing carpet directly from the manufacturer. They returned to the Toledo area with 20 to 30 small rolls of carpet, and Carpets by Otto was born. Carpets by Otto is now the largest independent floor covering retailer in northwest Ohio, according to the company. Their two-story showroom on Angola Road houses their regular selection, and the Rems Rolls Outlet on Hamilton Drive in Holland features roll specials and hundreds of remnants. There are never any “sales” at Carpets by Otto, as the company prefers to allow customers to shop at their own pace with no pressure or gimmicks. The company offers more than 30 brands of carpet and the selection is constantly growing. They have access to more carpet and hard surface flooring products than their floor space can accommodate, so customers can often get what theyre looking for even if they dont see it in the showroom. Customers can also shop on the Internet by visiting where they will find lists and descriptions of available products, helpful buying and maintenance tips, and answers to frequently asked questions about carpet and flooring.
CarpetThe first carpets of note were woven by nomads. The thick carpets were easy to transport and were placed over the sand floor of tent dwellings. Early looms were similarly easy to transport. Two forked branches were joined by a crosspiece holding the suspended warp, and a wooden bar was used to flatten binding weft threads, while the loose warp ends formed the carpets pile. The Pazyryk carpet has been documented as the earliest hand loom carpet, dating back from 500 B.C. and discovered in a tomb located in the Alti Mountains in Central Asia.

Real estate is a popular investment among Canadians. There are several advantages to investing in real estate. Real estate is leveraged. You may pay only a fraction (as low as 10%) of what the property is worth when you buy it. Real estate has utility. If you buy stocks or bonds, you cannot do anything with them; but when you buy real estate, you can use it until you sell it. For example, you can live in a house.
Real Estate Brokers with the SRES designation help seniors make wise decisions about selling their home, buying rental property, managing the capital gains and estate tax implications of owning real estate, obtaining a reverse mortgage, moving to a senior community and other issues. The designation was introduced in 1997 and is nationally recognized.

The justice system is a mockery when criminal lawyers can manipulate the system, and the evidence, to get criminals exonerated. Why does the justice system allow lawyers to abet, aid and reward criminals to thwart justice? Such lawyers are guilty of despicable injustices upon humanity. The justice system rewards the lawyers for their actions in thwarting justice. Defense lawyers who commit such atrocities become co-conspirators and perpetrators of criminal injustice and must be held accountable.
Business Editors/Legal Writers Orrick, Herrington Sutcliffe LLP announced today that leading white collar criminal defense lawyer and former federal prosecutor Walt Brown has joined the firm as a partner in its litigation practice. He will be based in the firms San Francisco office.

FINANCEDividend policy is the decision regarding funds to be distributed or returned to the equity investors. This can be done with common stock dividends, preferred stock dividends, or stock repurchase by the business of its own stock. The aim of this decision is to retain the resources in the business that are required to run the business or make additional investments in the business, as long as the returns earned exceed the required return. In theory, management should return or distribute all resources that cannot be invested in the business at levels in excess of the required return. In practice, however, dividends are often maintained at or changed to certain levels in order to convey the proper signals to the investors and the financial markets. For example, dividends can be maintained at moderate levels to demonstrate stability, maintained at or reduced to low levels to demonstrate the growth opportunities for the business, or increased to higher levels to demonstrate the restoration of a strong financial (capital) structure (debt and equity capital) for the business.Capital is the total of financial resources invested in the business. In terms of the sources, there are two types of capital: interest-bearing debt funds, such as loans, bonds, short-term notes, and interest-bearing payables to trade suppliers; and equity, such as common and preferred stock and the earnings retained in the business that add to stockholders share of the entities. In terms of uses, there are also two types of capital: net working capital, such as operating cash, inventory, and receivables, less interest-free payables to trade suppliers; and fixed capital, such as property, plant, and equipment. Capital is managed to maximize wealth by maximizing the rates of return on investments of capital and thus maximizing the total net present value of the business. This can be done by minimizing the amount of capital used for given business investments with given business returns.

Alex Wiedenhoeft has spent the past 7 years answering the same question about 10,000 times. When foresters, lumber dealers, crime investigators, and museum curators really need to know, “What kind of wood is this?” Wiedenhoeft is one of the few people they can go to. “A man called to say hed bought an end table at an auction for $15,000, which I found flabbergasting just on general principles,” remembers Wiedenhoeft of the U.S. Forest Services Center for Wood Anatomy Research at the Forest Products Laboratory in Madison, Wis. Wiedenhoeft studied the samples and reported that they came from one of several kinds of white pine. He stated the limits of his evidence carefully. Yet his report, combined with factors such as the size of the wood pieces and the tables age, suggested that the man had unknowingly bought eastern-white-pine furniture made on this side of the Atlantic. Not exactly bad news: The potential value of the little table, now recognized as a rarity, jumped to more than $100,000. The 26-year-old Wiedenhoeft represents the new generation of wood anatomists. Theyre familiar with scanning electron microscopy and molecular genetics. Yet most of the cases Wiedenhoeft gets, even the exotic ones, still depend on spotting classic quirks of wood at the tissue and cellular levels. Optics may have changed somewhat since Sherlock Holmes day, but Wiedenhoeft still takes his first look at a problem with a handheld magnifying glass.
Lincoln Mercury in June launches a print and TV pitch for its Lincoln Premier Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) cars, joining rivals who are also trying to turnover a massive pool of formerly leased vehicles hitting the market. The campaign, which begins June 1, will initially focus on Lincoln luxury vehicles Continental and Town Car, now coming off 2- and 3-year factory leasing, according to Andy McKinnon, Lincolns manager of fleet, lease and remarketing. Sherry Pollack, group creative director at the agency, said the campaign comprises two 30-second TV spots and a related print campaign, all with a “day in the life” documentary feel, mimicking the book. One of the spots, “Hamptons,” opens with a man driving a late-model Lincoln to estate sales in a posh area. The spot lampoons the setting (espresso machines and English saddles) while lionizing the drivers thrift.

As a natural extension of our experience in the production of CDs, Nimbus took a pioneering role as an early entrant into the DVD marketplace. Today, Nimbus is recognized as one of the industrys most experienced DVD replicators and technology innovators. The company began production of its first DVDs in September 1996 and has pressed more than 5 million discs since DVD players became commercially available in January 1997. When it comes to DVD, the importance of experience in production cannot be stressed enough. While the manufacturing principles for DVD are similar to those for CD, a DVDs pit length and track spacing are significantly reduced so that the surface area of a DVD can contain approximately four times as many pits as a CD. This fundamental issue and the fact that DVDs are comprised of two half-thickness, bonded substrates makes the manufacturing considerations of DVD far more challenging. The processes of DVD mastering and replication are notably more complex than for CD; both require a higher degree of manufacturing precision. At Nimbus, rather than using upgraded CD mastering equipment, DVD mastering is performed on dedicated UV laser beam recorders, specifically designed to create optimum quality DVD stampers. In mass manufacture, the thickness of disc substrates must be more uniform; there must be reduced eccentricity of track-to-center-hole and the bonding technology has to be optimized. All these criteria must be met in order to produce a resulting product that is very fiat–a key element in achieving DVD quality. While many of the same disc artwork options used for CD are also available for DVD, some of the most common techniques may have an adverse effect on the flatness of a DVD. Pit art imaging, where disc artwork is molded from a stamper, is unique to DVD and is a cost-effective option that eliminates the traditional printing process.

Easy IlluminationSinatra aside, nothing sets the mood better than candles. Pillars scented with cinnamon or vanilla make a living room extra cozy, and a few dozen tea lights are all it takes to make a party shine. Even small votives add ambience. Of course, candles do have annoying habits. They drip wax, refuse to stand up straight in holders, and emit lots of smoke. In a quest to conquer candle conundrums, we came up with a list of tips.Tis the season for lots of candlelight. Heres a checklist for all you need to know before you get glowing.
CHAMELEON CANDLING
When entertaining outdoors, use candles, glass jars, and fresh cutting for a creative summery tablescape. To re-create this look, begin by gathering cream-colored candles and glass containers in various shapes and sizes. Include one or two large hurricane globes to cover tall pillar candles. Tie a few blades of beargrass around the necks of the jars, and tuck in flowering sprigs of bupleurum or dill. Use floating candles in several of the smaller jars, filling the containers partially with water. Short pillars and votives can rest inside other jars. Scatter the candles along the table, varying the heights. Mix in more glass containers with simple arrangements of dill, bupleurum, and lilies or other seasonal blooms. Beargrass jutting out from tall bottles gives height at one end of the table. You can also use jars for holding the flatware as well as linen napkins. Nestle in stacks of lightcolored plates and bowls, and play with the entire arrangement to create a flow from back to front. Add wine glasses to the tabletop, accompanied by a bottle of wine in a clear ice bucket or sparkling fruit juice in a glass pitcher.

CandleCandles have also been used for religious purposes. The Bible, for instance, makes numerous references to the use of candles, including the story of King Solomon who, after building the Temple, used ten candle-sticks to light the north and south ends of the structure. In the Middle Ages, candlemaking became a popular occupation, as evidenced by the creation of many candlemakers guilds throughout Europe. Later, candles were used as a means of keeping time. At auctions, the bidding time was limited by inserting a pin into a candle and letting the wax melt until the pin dropped, thus concluding that period of time.

ELEVEN months of sun a year guarantee you a warm welcome to Cyprus. Wherever you are on the island, the deep blue waters of the Med are never more than a two-hour car ride away. The coastline, hugged by resorts and luxury hotels, is a mixture of sun-soaked glistening sands and rocky coves. Inland vineyards cling to hillsides along with citrus groves and banana plantations. Mr. Klinghoffer is NRs literary editor.FALL is here at last and Ive been looking forward to it for a number of rea- sons: crisp autumn air, orange leaves, pumpkin pie, and the probability that the sexier women on our city streets would begin to put their clothes back on again. By winter, they may be fully dressed. The male instinct tells us to celebrate this. Recently I conducted a survey of my male friends, in their twenties and thirties, and found they had all taken note of the evolution in fashion: shorter shorts, shorter skirts, chiffon-type skirts that are long but see-through, suggestively ripped Levis, very tight and small white T-shirts baring eight inches of tanned stomach, very thin loose T-shirts worn without a bra. No shape or location of anything, no ques- tion as to firmness or softness, is left ambiguous.
Clothes IronA clothes iron is a household appliance used to press the wrinkles out of and creases into clothes. When the iron is turned on, the consumer moves it over an item of clothing on an ironing board. The combination of heat and pressure removes wrinkles.
Dear Heloise: I have five closets, and when the seasons are about to change, I dry-clean some of my clothes, then store them, still in cleaner bags, until their season rolls around again. The clothes that arent dry-cleaned are still placed in cleaner bags for storage. Am I doing more harm to my clothes than good? — S. Nauls, Houston Clothes should never be stored for a long time in plastic bags. Plastic doesnt allow clothing to “breathe,” and in high-humidity states, it can cause mildew and mold. Also, plastic allows light to penetrate, which can cause fading.

To open up a small kitchen, remove upper cabinet doors. Paint the inside a bright color and keep everything organized. Paint can dramatically update an old appliance. Be sure to use a paint made specifically for appliances, because other paints will not adhere correctly. Tired of your tiled backsplash, but cant afford to replace all the tiles? Remove a few with a grout remover and chisel, then replace with decorative tiles that fit your kitchens theme.

Wood still good: Wood-finished cabinets are still the style of choice in kitchens across the United States; they represent about 80 percent of all cabinets purchased, according to a 2002 survey conducted by the National Kitchen and Bath Association. Scripps Howard News ServiceCountertops: Few home remodeling projects are more desirable and offer more bang for your buck than new kitchen countertops. According to a National Kitchen and Bath Association survey, about 94 million linear feet of countertops were installed in homes in 2002. Sixty-two percent of that was used for kitchen remodels. The amount spent on countertops ranks just below cabinets.

The Business Council of NYS has also endorsed it, despite voicing reservations about adding to NYs already high debt load. Half the funding will go to transit projects in the Metropolitan Transportation Authority region and the other half to bridges, roads, airports and other transportation facilities outside NYC.
Within freight transport, railway transport rose substantially, while maritime transport dropped by a fifth. Transport of goods by railway surged by 14.9%, and the growth of road freight transport remained strong at 7%. The rapid expansion of land transport is explained by the robust domestic GDP growth and the high increase in harbour transport (10.6%). Roughly in the middle of 2006, the global growth of maritime transport eased off, which led to several quarterly decreases in the volume of this form of transport, including the first quarter of 2007, when the volume of Slovenian maritime transport fell by 19.9%. Over the past three years, the volume of road freight transport enjoyed the highest growth (by more than 50%) within freight transport (railway transport rose by 13.8%), while harbour and maritime transport rose by over 30%. Road freight transport is the main transport activity within the transport, storage, and communications sector, which has also seen the biggest expansion in the last few years. In 2006, the three main transport activities within the transport, storage, and communications sector were road freight transport, which employed 35.8% of workers in this sector, railway transport (15.2%), and the shipping industry (6.6%; both companies and sole proprietors are included, and the latter are also counted as employees). The corresponding shares of value added generated in these three branches are 23.3%, 12.0%, and 6.3%. Looking at the structure of workers employed in transport activities within the sector in 2003-2006, the highest increase of 3.2 p.p. was recorded in the share of road freight transport, while the shares of railway transport and shipping declined by 1.3 p.p. and 2.2 p.p., respectively (a similar direction and intensity of changes was also observed in the structure of value added; see graph). The number of employees in the transport segment of the transport, storage, and communications sector rose by 2,053 to 39,028. In 2006, road freight transport employed 18,807 workers, 2,425 more than in 2003. The number of workers in the forwarding industry fell by 950 to 3,445, while the number of railway workers declined by 326 to 7,985. The decline in the volume of the forwarding industry was largely caused by Slovenias entry to the EU. Data regarding both the volume of transport and the size of the activity are unfavourable in terms of sustainable development, since cargo is still largely being moved from railways to roads, rather than the other way around.

Competing against the big box retailers is a challenge for Kansas small-town businesses, but state programs can help their owners work toward success. “There are so many challenges that face small mom-and-pop or individual business owners,” said Jeanne Stinson, state coordinator for the Kansas Main Street Program. “Theyre faced with huge competition from the big box stores and most of them, I think, in Kansas have learned to live with that competition. Its not going to go away.” “Promotional activities are one of those four points,” she said. “We also look to the organization itself — their group. Who is doing this work and making sure that its adequately funded, that they have the ability to do their advertising and to make assistance to businesses.”

The Journal staff Waukesha Shawn Sanders dropped out of school in the ninth grade to help her mother raise younger siblings. The fourth of 12 children, Sanders says she thought she knew it all when it came to parenting. She found out differently after attending the Families Learning Together program at Waukesha County Technical College. The program celebrated its one-year anniversary earlier this week, as Sanders and her 3-year- old daughter, Kayla Heartz, joined other moms and kids in a celebration at WCTCs Waukesha campus, 327 E. Broadway.
A few moments ago Christine Weglinski, our Production Manager, walked into my office with a heaping dish of “Death By Chocolate,” her famous million-calories-per-serving dessert. The recipe requires one package of chocolate cake mix, two large packages of instant chocolate pudding, a large container of non-dairy whipped topping, six toffee candy bars (crushed) and a very large bowl. The appearance in our Teaching K-8 offices of such unexpected snacks is typical of the family-type happenings that go on around here as we create this magazine for you.
BEST HIKE WITH KIDS Weve said it before, but well say it again. This hike has everything - mountain vistas, meadows painted with wildflowers, a rock canopy that will forever be called “the cave,” marshes, aspen groves, funny-shaped rocks, and a shallow stream that screams, “Step into me! I dare you!” Theres so much here that it might take your family a while to go the two miles, but its always worth the time. To get there: Take U.S. Highway 24 west to Divide; turn left on Colorado Highway 67; go about five miles and watch for Crags Campground sign. Turn left and follow dirt road to trailhead parking.

DR. MARK LOPEZ has been named associate director of the Pew Hispanic Center. Previously, he was research director of the Center for Information and Research on Civic Learning and Engagement at the University of Maryland, College Park. He earned a bachelors from the University of California, Berkeley, and a masters and doctorate from Princeton University.
This is the can-do/well-show-you-how civic research organization of our dreams. Its three initiatives (Wanted: Solutions for America; the Pew Civic Entrepreneur Initiative [PCEI]; and the Civic Change Project) document and disseminate cutting-edge community solutions. Pew deals in real, field-tested “best practices,” bridging the gap between theory and the real world. Periodic action-research updates are available free. “Civic processes or inventions that will actually change the outcome in a community.” What more is there?
In 1995 the Pew Health Profession Commission reported on conclusions of the Task force on Health Care Workforce Regulation. In Reforming Health Care Workforce Regulation. Policy Considerations for the 21st Century ten broad recommendations were presented for improving workforce regulation in the publics interest. The American Nurses Association (ANA) examined the 1998 Pew report and responded to the recommendations presented. Although ANA agreed with many of the issues presented by Pew, there was a major concern. This ANA concern was summarized by, “.the regulatory scheme proposed by Pew would result in more duplication and multiple layers of regulation that would simply create an even more confusing health care environment.” Surely legislators in various government structures will utilize the Pew Report and ANA response for decisions on new laws and regulations on how, when and where professional health care workers function. Nurses need to recognize how these potential changes will affect their professional practice and be prepared to address these changes. The reports may not be as exciting as a mystery book, however, they are more exciting when nurses realize how their practice will be affected if these changes take place. Both reports are essential reading for all nurses. The full citation for this publication is: Strengthening Consumer Protection: Priorities for Health Care Workforce Regulation. Company Shares Top Findings from Bridal Photography Survey Along With New Wedding Inspiration Center and Photo Book Design REDWOOD CITY, Calif. — Shutterfly, Inc. (NASDAQ:SFLY), the leading Internet-based social expression and personal publishing service, today announced the results of a nationwide survey to help brides of all ages capture, share and preserve the memories of their wedding day. Not surprisingly, 84 percent of brides-to-be plan to hire a professional photographer for their wedding, according to a survey conducted for Shutterfly by MH, Inc. According to the survey, selecting the right photographer was one of the most stressful parts of the wedding planning. Some of the least stressful decisions? Choosing the date, the cake and first dance song. Our customers tell us that choosing a trusted wedding photographer can be difficult, so we have devoted a section of our newly launched Wedding Inspiration Center specifically to help guide brides through this decision process, said Kathryn Olson, chief marketing officer of Shutterfly.
Wedding photography has become an increasingly specialized and lucrative field yet it is surprising how few wedding “how-to” books are on the market and fewer that discuss the many facets of wedding photography in any detail. Pro Techniques is a complete course in wedding photography, a real “how-to” book packed with proven facts to launch you into another career or help you become a more successful wedding photographer. Unlike other branches of photography, theres no repeat performance, no chance for a reshoot. With this book you can gain the skills to meet that challenge.

Chains Expand RTA Furniture Skus; Add Bedroom Sets New lines of bedroom furniture aimed at te discount market and the continued growing acceptance of ready-to-assemble (RTA) furniture among consumers has created a category that buyers say all but sells itself. Even more important to discount store buyers, the RTA consumer is evidently willing to trade up to higher prices as long as the product exhibits upgraded style and quality.
The wood bedroom furniture antidumping petition, which began as a legal battle pitting U.S. manufacturers against Chinese manufacturers, quickly escalated into a multi-fronted war that also encompasses heated opposition by a group of U.S. furniture retailers and Furniture Brands International. Representing the Committee for Legal Trade is Doug Bassett, vice president of sales for Vaughan-Bassett Furniture Co. of Galax, VA. Responding to questions on behalf of the Furniture Retailers of America is Michael Veitenheimer, vice president, secretary and general counsel for The Bombay Co. of Ft. Worth, TX. The DOC. found that all seven are in fact guilty of illegal dumping. No amount of spinning by the PR firms and lawyers representing the other side can change that central fact.

NEW YORK (AP) — Digging for gold in the growing mounds of tarnished credit and bankruptcies, some credit-card issuers are issuing cards to some of the worst credit risks — sometimes charging hundreds of dollars in fees. “Weve begun to see more and more of these offers, and we suspect this is an area thats going to grow,” said Ruth Susswein, executive director of Bankcard Holders of America in McLean, Va. “But be aware that these offers can be very costly and may be a bad deal, although theyre certainly not going to be pitched that way.” Until recently, people with past credit problems could only get credit cards if they first put up enough money to at least cover their credit limit. The new products arent secured, but holders of the new cards are required to make an up-front payment or pay special fees over time. These fees can sometimes be considerable, and unlike a secured account, they dont earn interest. AmCredit in Sioux Falls, S.D., buys debts that others have given up on for pennies on the dollar. Through a 5,000-card pilot program launched last May, it asks people who have already been through bankruptcy to repay all or a portion of their old debt. In exchange, AmCredit will extend a modest line of new credit, typically 10 percent of what the bankrupt person agrees to pay back. Susswein says the offer isnt a good deal. Anybody who has been through bankruptcy has already had the debts wiped out. “Dont assume debt that is already not yours to pay,” she said. Martin Burke, vice chairman of Service One, which markets and services the AmCredit program, said the AmCredit cards offer “an opportunity for people to take advantage of one of their old obligations to re-establish themselves as credible.” Some creditors dont want to lend money to people who have only had secured cards, because they dont demonstrate that someone can actually pay back a loan, Burke added. Cardholders do not pay an initial fee, but pay a 6.9 annual percentage rate for the six months and 18.99 percent thereafter. First Premier Bank in Sioux Falls offers loans from $250 to $1,000, for which consumers pay a $49 up-front processing fee, another $89 to join the program, plus an annual fee of $89. Of the total $227 initial cost, $178 can be paid out over time, but that counts against the card holders credit limit. Cardholders pay a 21 percent annual rate. Bill Connor, vice president for new business at First Premier, said some customers do not want a secured credit card because they incorrectly perceive that a merchant accepting the card for payment can tell it is secured, or because they have a hard time raising a security deposit. First Premier, which piloted about 105,000 unsecured cards three months ago, also has several secured products in the marketplace, Connor said. Cross Country Bank in Wilmington, Del., which recently bought Ocean Independent Banks credit-card business, offers unsecured credit between $350 and $2,500. Consumers pay $100 up front, $50 a year, and APR of 20.99 percent, Susswein said. Susswein thinks a secured credit card is a better deal for people with spotty credit. Although the deposits for secured cards typically earn minimal interest — under 3 percent — that is still better than giving the money away in the form of fees, she said. “I agree with (that) conclusion,” Connor admitted, “but the client is the person who makes the decision here.”
The average American household with at least one credit card carried a credit card balance of $7,564 in 1999. In 1990 the typical American household with at least one credit card had a credit card balance of $2,985. Seventy eight million of the 105 million households in the United States had at least one credit card last year. The 1999 average annual percentage rate on all bank credit cards was 17.11 percent. Americans charged more than $1 trillion on their VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards during 1999. There were 506 million VISA, MasterCard, Discover and American Express cards in circulation in the United States last year. There were another 800 million debit and credit cards in circulation.

Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs) are essentially closed-end real estate funds. They invest in commercial, office and/or residential properties. REITs typically generate high income (10%-to-15%) and some provide even higher returns. Because of their high yields, REITs are currently very popular. Lately, some REITs have been yielding over 10%. Here are some examples of REITs: Your stock broker should be able to provide more information. Money Digest publishes articles on REITs, income and royalty trusts on a regular basis.
At the first meeting of the NAIOP Chapter for New York City, Westchester and Fairfield Counties in 1997, a packed house at the Greenwich Hyatt Hotel on January 23rd heard three experts in the field of capital investment in real estate discuss “Attracting Capital for Real Estate Investing.”Scott, whose company currently has $700 million in office, industrial and retail properties under management, said that the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) is one of the most popular vehicles for portfolio managers to invest in real estate. One of the major reasons Scott cited for the popularity of the REIT is its high yield and liquidity. The investment is not in a single piece of property, but in the diversified holdings of the REIT. It also allows the investor to exit quickly by selling the stock.
Awakened from their slumber, real estate investments are flourishing in a low interest rate, low inflation climate Ive written several articles recommending REITs (Real Estate Investment Trusts) over the past two years, and have decided to write some general thoughts on where real estate securities may be headed. At the time, REITs were yielding as high as 14%, which made no sense in relation to the yields on other conservative income vehicles. REITs have returned about 60% overall in the past two years.

Party Bags

> Its always important to wear cool nightwear around the house: you never know when that foxy man is going to turn up on your doorstep. However, someone should tell Heather Graham that this only applies indoors. She turned up at an Entertainment Weekly party dressed as a spooky baby doll, not only looking daft next to anyone wearing normal clothes, but also next to the medieval gypsy women on her nightie.
It was a swan she turned into, deary, not an ostrich.

acupuncture back pain

The NIH panel stated that there is clear clinical evidence that acupuncture provides relief from the nausea associated with chemotherapy, anesthesia or pregnancy, as well as post-operative dental pain. There are other situations in which research on acupunctures effectiveness is less convincing, yet still promising:
While acupuncture has been a successful Chinese medical treatment for over 5000 years it was not well known to the general U.S. public until the early 1970s when President Nixon reopened relationships with China. Acupuncture was first met with skepticism both by the U.S. public at large and the conventional American Medical Association. Slowly Americans and other western countries began to conduct studies sometimes in conjunction with the Chinese about the efficacy of acupuncture. Certain types of acupuncture particularly for pain management and drug related addictions were easily translated into western medical theory and could be easily learned and used by western doctors. Thus the idea of using some acupuncture gained mainstream acceptance. As this acceptance grew so did the use of acupuncture and Chinese medical theories and methods at least amongst the numbers of people open to “alternative” medicine. By the 1990s despite initial scientific skepticism acupuncture became one of the most accepted “alternative” medicines in the United States used to varying degrees by AMA physicians and licensed Chinese doctors and accepted on some levels by health and government institutions.
Acupuncture is considered a form of treatment or therapy. However, acupuncture practitioners believe that acupuncture may be most successful when it is applied as an early intervention for symptoms or conditions. It may be that acupuncture can prevent some symptoms and conditions from becoming worse or chronic. To date, two studies have shown a positive effect in preventing breech births among pregnant women. More research is needed to define the preventive value of acupuncture.

Toner Cartridges

June 17th, 2008

At this time, resellers have a minimum number of cartridges in stock, and customers may experience a delay in receiving their 5Si printer toner cartridges (C3909A). HP wants to assure customers that it will continue to identify ways to alleviate the shortage and minimize the impact to customers. -0- CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS– Customers who are unable to purchase cartridges through their resellers may call HP directly at (800) 538-8787 from 6:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. PST, Monday through Friday. Customers may use major credit cards to order up to two cartridges for next-day delivery.– HP is streamlining the shipping process from its supplier to expedite delivery of new cartridges.
The new toner cartridge has been engineered to produce as many as 8,800 pages per cartridge — approximately 2,000 more pages than the 98A toner cartridge. This offers a significant cost-per-page advantage for customers. HP estimates, that, in addition to reducing shipping and inventory costs for businesses purchasing toner cartridges, a third fewer empty cartridges will be generated with the 98X, lowering administrative costs and providing an environmental benefit. Each 98X toner cartridge, like all HP cartridges, will be shipped with a prepaid UPS shipping label so that the user can send the empty cartridge back to HP for recycling. HP recycles up to 95 percent of each toner cartridge it receives and has recycled more than 12 million cartridges since 1990. “Were proud to make these announcements, the result of which, we believe, will lower the cost of printing to provide savings that will go directly to a users bottom line,” said Doug Johnson, marketing manager for HPs LaserJet Supplies Operation. “The maximum-capacity cartridge complements our strong family of toner cartridges by offering users the high-volume printing and superior print quality necessary in todays workplace.”
One option is remanufactured toner cartridges, which contain one or more recycled parts. Remanufactured cartridges typically cost about 30 percent less than those with allnew components, and are environmentally friendly as well, according to Karvel. Another option is high-yield toner cartridges, which can reduce equipment operating costs up to 70 percent. “High-yield cartridges are more expensive than standard-yield cartridges, but since they dont have to be replaced as often, theyre significantly more cost-effective,” he said. For a limited time, Information Alternatives, which sells more than 2,500 new and remanufactured toner cartridge products, is offering valuable reference guides to first-time customers who make minimum purchases. Those who spend at least $500 receive a free copy of The Matchbook, a 175-page reference to 50,000 supplies for commonly used office machines. Customers who make an initial purchase of at least $2,000 also receive The Laser Printer Problem Solver, a do-it-yourself troubleshooting guide for users and support personnel to keep those machines operating efficiently.
